This paper is a descriptive and a quantitative study made to examine the level of understanding of English proverbs amongst fourth year students of English department of Gharyan university. It aims to find out whether those students are able to translate a given number of proverbs from English into Arabic. It also designed to explore the methods that were used by students in translating proverbs.
